At first glance, the word 'chaos' suggests randomness or disorder, but in mathematics, Chaos Theory refers to deterministic systems that are highly sensitive to initial conditions — famously known as the 'butterfly effect.' Small changes can lead to wildly different outcomes, making long-term prediction practically impossible. Weather forecasting is a key area where this sensitivity is evident. While the underlying rules are fixed and logical, the outcomes appear unpredictable. This theory has transformed the way we understand dynamic systems in fields as varied as meteorology, medicine, and ecology.

One of the oldest branches of pure mathematics, Number Theory is primarily concerned with the properties and relationships of integers. What began as ancient curiosity about prime numbers has led to breakthroughs in cryptography, data security, and computer science. Techniques such as modular arithmetic, prime factorisation, and Diophantine equations are core to this field. Despite its abstract origins, Number Theory has become surprisingly practical. For instance, RSA encryption — which secures digital communications — relies on the difficulty of factoring large prime numbers, a classic Number Theory problem.

Described as 'rubber-sheet geometry,' Topology explores the properties of shapes that remain unchanged under stretching, bending, or twisting — but not tearing. A classic joke in the field is that a coffee mug and a doughnut are topologically equivalent, as they both have one hole. Beyond the jokes, topology has powerful implications. It's fundamental in data science (topological data analysis), robotics, and even the study of the universe’s shape in cosmology. The field allows mathematicians to study continuity and space in ways that defy traditional geometry, offering deep insights into both abstract and applied sciences.
