Over the past two decades, the fashion industry has experienced rapid (0) GROWTH (GROW), largely driven by so-called 'fast fashion' brands. These companies rely on 1INDUSTRY processes that allow them to bring new designs from the drawing board to the shop floor in a matter of weeks. Mass 2PRODUCE keeps prices remarkably low, which in turn encourages 3CONSUME to buy far more clothes than they actually need. In recent years, however, public 4AWARE of the environmental cost of this model has grown considerably. Textile dyeing is now regarded as one of the largest sources of water 5POLLUTE in the world, and the industry's carbon emissions have risen 6SIGNIFICANT since the year 2000. As a result, a growing number of designers are turning towards more 7SUSTAIN materials and production methods. Ultimately, however, shoppers themselves must accept a certain degree of 8RESPONSIBLE by thinking carefully about what they buy and how long they intend to wear it.
