Today, Antarctica is mostly devoid of its ancient life. It has no trees or bushes and 1VEGETATE is limited to moss and algae. The only animals that stay on land the whole year are tiny invertebrates, such as mites and ticks. These 2REMARK creatures have adapted to the cold by becoming frozen in ice under rocks and stones! The large animals that do live in Antarctica are 3COMPLETE dependent on the sea. The most 4FAME resident is the penguin. A flightless bird, but an excellent 5SWIM, penguins live on Antarctica and in the ocean. Other animals, such as leopard seal, live in the surrounding ocean and feed on the penguins. Antarctica is not a very convenient home for humans. The continent is only 6ACCESS from November to March, during which time enough ice melts to allow 7PASS of ships. Those who make the journey are rewarded with amazing scenery and unique 8WILD. However, during winter the sea is impassable, with temperature falling to around -80°C. Humans start to feel cold at around -25°C. At a temperature of-80°C, exposed flesh freezes in seconds!
