AThe Suspended Monorail
Constructed over a century ago in a crowded industrial city, this extraordinary transport system functions completely upside down. Instead of riding on top of the tracks, the carriages hang beneath a massive steel framework built directly over a winding river. This innovative design was originally chosen because there was simply no available land left at street level to build a traditional tram network. Despite its terrifying appearance and the fact that it swings significantly going around corners, it is statistically one of the safest public transport systems in the entire world. The only major drawback for daily commuters is the deafening screeching noise the metal wheels produce, which echoes loudly throughout the entire valley every time a train approaches a station.
