A passenger can also ride on the back of the motorcycle, and some motorcycles have a sidecar that can carry another passenger. But if you want to go somewhere with your friends, a motorcycle is not good for you. You'll need a car.

Since then, many other companies have made them, especially in Japan. Major Japanese manufacturers include Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha. A well-known American manufacturer of motorcycles is called Harley-Davidson, and their motorcycles are now collected by many people.
Since motorcycles can be lighter than cars, they can go faster than them. But it also makes them not as safe as cars, because they do not have a protective skin around them, like cars. Very often motorcycle riders are badly injured in accidents. Unless you are very skilful, they are difficult to ride, and even harder to control when you go fast.
In poor countries, motorcycles are used by many people as a cheap way of getting around. A lot of people who do not have the money to buy a car can afford a small motorcycle. They even use them to carry things from place to place. In rich countries, they are used in a different way. Large powerful motorcycles are used more as a hobby or for sport, and people ride them for fun.
