Last month, my grandfather gave me an old silver watch. He told me that it had (0) BELONGED to his own father and that it was more than a hundred years old. At first, I was afraid to wear it case I broke it, but he insisted that a watch should be used, not kept in a drawer.
The watch is beautiful, although it looks very from modern ones. Instead of a battery, it has tiny metal pieces inside, and you have to wind it every morning. If you forget, it simply working. My grandfather showed me how to do it carefully, without too hard on the small button at the top.
I now wear the watch almost every day. Friends often me where I got such an unusual object, and I enjoy telling them the story behind it. In a world where most things are thrown after a few years, it is nice to own something that has survived for so long.
