When I was a teenager, I had no interest in cooking at all. My mother used to (0) PREPARE every meal, and I simply enjoyed eating whatever she made. However, when I moved out to go to university, I suddenly had to care of myself. The first few weeks were a disaster. I burnt the rice, I too much salt in the soup, and one evening I nearly set fire to the kitchen.
A friend of mine, who was a very good cook, offered to me some simple recipes. At first I didn't think I would be able to them, but after a lot of practice I started to improve. I learnt that cooking is not only about following instructions; it is also about being patient and paying to small details.
These days I cook almost every evening and I find it very relaxing. I still call my mother and then to ask for her advice, but I feel proud that I can finally look after myself in the kitchen.
