Usain Bolt is a famous Jamaican person, and he is also an Olympic legend. He won medals as a sprinter, and in track and field events. That is because he holds the world records for the 100m, 200m and the long jump. He also tried to become a professional football player, but he wasn’t successful at that.
Usain Bolt was born in Jamaica, and he attended the William Knibb school, which was next to his house. His teachers noticed that he was good at sports from an early age. He loved playing cricket and football with his brother and his friends, and was rarely at home. It all came very easily to him.
A former Olympic athlete called Pablo Mcneil noticed Usain’s speed, and spoke to his friend and sports coach Dwayne Jarrett about him. They spoke to Usain and offered to help him by coaching him. In 2001, with their help, he won his first important race. He started to believe that he could win more races.
He was not very keen on training, however, and preferred to have fun with his friends. Even so, Mcneil continued to persuade him to put extra effort into his training, and after a year, he went to the world junior championships, which were held in Kingston, Jamaica. That was when he started to become famous, not only in Jamaica, but everywhere.
He was only 15 when he won that medal, and he was also the youngest world-junior gold medallist. Everyone could see that he was going to be someone special. He kept on winning races, and at the age of 16, bolt’s times were incredible. They were as good as Michael Johnson’s were when he was 20. He was also the most famous sports personality in the US at that time.
